Making a Will and Protecting the People Who Matter Most

Making a Will is one of the most thoughtful and caring steps you can take to protect your family, your assets and your wishes. It provides clarity, certainty and reassurance at a time when your loved ones will need it most.

We focus exclusively on Wills and Estate Planning, helping individuals and families put robust plans in place that reflect their personal circumstances.

“Our aim is simple: to give you peace of mind by ensuring your wishes are clearly set out and legally effective”

Why Making a Will Matters

Without a valid Will in place, your estate will be distributed according to the law, not your wishes. This can often lead to outcomes that are unexpected, unsuitable or distressing for those left behind.

A Will allows you to:

  • Decide exactly who should inherit from you
  • Protect children and vulnerable beneficiaries
  • Reduce stress, delay and unnecessary costs for your family
  • Plan ahead with confidence.

Common Misconceptions About Wills

Many people delay making a Will because of common myths, including:

“My spouse will automatically inherit everything.”

This is not always true. Under the intestacy rules, married couples and civil partners do not necessarily inherit the entire estate, particularly where children are involved.

“My partner will be looked after.”

Unmarried partners have no automatic right to inherit, regardless of how long they have lived together.

“I’m too young to need a Will.”

Life is unpredictable. A Will is relevant at any age, especially if you own property, have children or wish to control who benefits from your estate.

What Happens If You Don’t Make a Will

Dying without a Will can result in:

  • Your estate being divided under the intestacy rules
  • No say over who benefits from your assets
  • Unmarried partners receiving nothing
  • Delays and increased administration costs
  • Additional stress and uncertainty for your family.

For Parents

A Will allows you to formally appoint guardians for your children under the age of 18. Without this, the decision may be made by the courts or local authority at a time of crisis, rather than by you.

Protecting Your Assets and Your Family’s Future

A carefully drafted Will can:

  • Ensure children inherit as intended
  • Protect assets from future relationships or remarriage
  • Minimise inheritance tax where appropriate
  • Safeguard the family home
  • Provide structure and protection through trusts where suitable.

You may also wish to:

  • Exclude certain individuals from benefiting
  • Leave gifts to friends, colleagues or charities
  • Specify who should receive personal and sentimental items.

These wishes can only be properly addressed through a valid Will.
